CSPD warns about counterfeit $100 bills made from smaller denominations

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Police are warning businesses to be on the lookout for fake $100 bills printed on the washed paper of a $1 bill.
The Colorado Springs Police Department provided a photo of one of the counterfeits. They say the marking pen can't detect the forgery because the paper is real.
Instead of relying on the pen, CSPD said businesses will need to rely on a close visual inspection of large denomination cash. Clerks should look carefully for other visual cues, like the watermark, on a real $100 bill.
Some remnants of the original bill may also remain on the counterfeit.
