Crash sparked large search for driver early Tuesday morning

DENVER - Denver police shut down streets early Tuesday morning after a driver crashed into a fire hydrant and ran from the wreck.

It happened just before 2 a.m. near West Exposition Avenue and South Patton Court. That's between South Federal Boulevard and Morrison Road.

Police found weapons in the car so they blocked streets and set up a perimeter at Patton Ct. to search for the suspect.

Officers on the scene said they took a man into custody at about 3:20 a.m., according to 7NEWS Photojournalist Pete Burd.

The suspect was injured and taken to the hospital. It's not clear whether he was hurt in the crash or during the search.

The driver was wanted on existing warrants, police said.
