DENVER -- Multiple crashes and slide-offs have snarled traffic and closed highways amid a wet and snowy Tuesday morning commute.

A crash on Interstate 70 near Lookout Mountain prompted the closure of the westbound lanes for about an hour in the area.

The Colorado Department of Transportationshut down the westbound lanes at the Morrison exit around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. The lanes reopened around 8:50 a.m.

Details surrounding the crash are not known, however multiple slide-offs have been reported along the corridor. Roads are icy and snow packed in spots.

Several crashes have also closed eastbound I-70 near Dowd Junction. There is no estimated time on when the highway will reopen.

A traction law is in effect on I-70 from C-470 to Vail Pass. The law requires passenger vehicles to have snow or mud/snow tires, use chains/alternative traction devices, or be a 4WD/AWD vehicle.

The weather is also impacting traffic south of the Denver metro area. The Colorado State Patrol tweeted that a crash involving a van on Interstate 25 near Surrey Ridge has blocked lanes in the area.
