Couch may be to blame for deadly crash in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police officers are trying to determine if a couch led to a crash that killed two military personnel.

Investigators were called to a crash at Highway 94 and Marksheffel Road , on the city's far east side, at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

When officers arrived they found a vehicle traveling eastbound had gone into the westbound lanes and collided with a truck. The two men inside the wrong-way vehicle were killed in the crash. The driver of the truck suffered a leg fracture requiring surgery.

As officers were investigating, they found a couch in the roadway.

"It will take time to determine if the couch played a role in this tragic crash," investigators said.

Investigators said they do not believe that speed was a factor in the crash.

The victim's names and their military branch have not yet been released.
