GREELEY, Colo. — The Weld County Coroner's Office has identified the person who was found in a car fire earlier this month in Greeley.

Workers at an Greeley oil site along the 13000 block of 29th Street — near the intersection of Highway 287 and 29th Street — noticed smoke in the area and were concerned their equipment was on fire. When they went to check, they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames, according to the Greeley Police Department. Once the fire was out, authorities found human remains in the passenger seat.

The coroner's office identified the person as 57-year-old Elsie Gay Sanderford of Greeley. Her body was identified by "scientific means," the coroner's office said, though it did not elaborate.

The case is still under investigation by the Greeley Police Department.
