Cops hear shotgun blast, get hit by flying glass when investigating home break-in

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs Police are investigating a bizarre home break-in that left an officer injured.

A neighbor called police at 10 p.m. Wednesday after seeing someone break into the storm cellar of a house near N. Wahsatch Avenue and E. Dale Street.

"Officers arrived and heard several loud bangs as they approached the residence," police said on the city's website."As they reached the cellar door, officers heard a shotgun blast and glass sprayed the officers."

One officer suffered minor injuries.

Colorado Springs Police said the officers established a perimeter and eventually convinced the suspect to come out.

Seth Ebert, 38, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a police office and other charges, police said.

Investigators said when they searched the basement they found a short shotgun and another firearm.
