DENVER – With temperatures coming close to triple digits this weekend, many will be seeking out ways to escape the heat.

Whether it’s splashing around in the water or heading to higher elevation, there are plenty of ways to loosen the sweltering sun’s grip on Colorado.

Swim, splash or slide
It’s the best way to stay cool, and there are plenty of places to choose from. Some of the most affordable parks include Centennial Center Park, Pirate’s Cove, and The Bay in Broomfield. A full list can be found here. But if you want to get that beach experience, head to the Boulder Reservoir or Jackson Lake State Park. Frozen treats
Nothing takes your mind off the heat like ice cream, and Denver can’t seem to get enough of it. Expect long lines at your favorite ice cream shop this weekend as a dome of heat covers Colorado. A list of Denver’s best ice cream shops can be found here.

Head to the mountains
The temperature drops the higher you go, so load up the car and head west, my friend. And the recently opened Mount Evans Highway would be a cool choice. And once you’re on the highest paved road in America, don’t forget to check out these don’t-miss stops along the way.

Caving
Caves are cool, literally. So, gather your gear and go spelunking this weekend. Colorado is home to several caverns worth exploring and most are open to the public. But some will require a permit due to concerns about a fast-spreading disease that affects bats. See Colorado’s top cavesand the latest requirements.
