Colorado Springs police substation evacuated after woman drove up with grenades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A substation of Colorado Springs Police was evacuated Tuesday afternoon when a woman brought two hand grenades to turn in.

The woman walked into the Falcon Substation near Academy Boulevard and told police she found two possible grenades and had them in her car outside.

The substation was evacuated and Goddard Street was shut down for a short period of time.

The bomb squad and personnel from Fort Carson responded and were able to safely recover the grenades.

Police ask that if you come across anything that could be an explosive do not handle the item; immediately clear the area and call 911.
