Colorado Springs girl handcuffed, expelled after bringing medical marijuana to school

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sheriff's officials say a 10-year-old Colorado girl was escorted from her school in handcuffs after she showed fellow students marijuana she had brought to school.

The girl’s father said the Evans International Elementary School student stole the medical marijuana from his locked room. The father told KRDO-TV that he has a prescription because of chronic pain, restless leg syndrome and ADHD.

Falcon School District 49 spokeswoman Stephanie Wurtz told The Gazette the school discovered the marijuana Tuesday morning. Sheriff's deputies escorted the girl from school in handcuffs in the afternoon, and she was later released to a parent.

The district's policy is to expel students who are found with drugs or alcohol.

The girl's father told the television station that she has been expelled from school. She faces marijuana-related charges.
