COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An Iraq War veteran who was convicted of manslaughter in a motorcycle club shooting has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.
Sgt. Christopher Mountjoy, assigned to the Army's Fort Carson, was sentenced Thursday in the shooting death of an unarmed man outside the Sin City Disciples motorcycle club in Colorado Springs in 2012.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Mountjoy received the maximum sentence, drawing gasps from family members.
The 32-year-old Mountjoy was sergeant-at-arms for the club.
Mountjoy had been charged with murder in the death of Virgil "Jason" Means, who witnesses said had been beaten up at the club and was returning for his wallet when he was shot.
A jury acquitted Mountjoy of murder but convicted him of manslaughter, evidence tampering and firearms violation.
