WAILUKU, Hawaii - A man from Colorado who was hiking on Maui has died in a fall.
Maui Police on Monday identified the man as 60-year-old Lynn Wyatt Huff of Boulder. He fell Saturday while walking in the Waihou Spring Forest Reserve.
The Maui News says fire crews from Makawao and Kahului responded to the incident on the west-facing slope of Haleakala around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Fire officials say the man and three other hikers were on the Waihou Spring trail within the reserve when he slipped and fell approximately 50 feet. The approximately 1-mile trail follows the Waihou Springs State Forest Reserve tree plantation road before making a loop and descending into the Kailua Gulch, which marks the end of the trail.
The trail is considered moderately difficult.
