DENVER - An inmate who apparently took a vehicle and drove away from a state correctional facility in Golden last month is back behind bars.
Kenneth Gomez was arrested Friday evening by the Fugitive Location and Apprehension Group. The Colorado Department of Corrections said Gomez was alone and was arrested without incident.
Gomez was just 10 miles from the Colorado Correctional Center, also known as Camp George West. He was on the run for one month and two days.
The camp is a minimum-security facility. The facility's website said many offenders have work assignments off-grounds with correctional industries and other state agencies, including the State Patrol, Department of Transportation, and the State Surplus facility in Denver.
Gomez was working as a mechanic in the Colorado State Patrol garage. Authorities said a red service vehicle belonging to the Colorado State Patrol garage also disappeared.
Gomez was convicted on charges of burglary and disturbing the public peace in Jefferson County in 2011. He was serving five years.
