Colorado Capitol evacuated for short time

DENVER - The Colorado state Capitol was evacuated Thursday for about 12 minutes.

Witnesses told 7NEWS that alarms started going off in the building around 12:37 p.m.

Within two minutes, the office of the Colorado State Senate Democrats tweeted, "Emergency at #coleg, building evacuated!"

The Colorado State Patrol confirmed a fire alarm sounded at the capitol and the Denver Fire Department was called to inspect the building.

Workers were allowed to return to the building around 12:50 p.m.

The Democrats office tweeted, "Emergency over at #coleg!"

7NEWS is waiting for information about what set off the alarm.
