College student from Evergreen killed in Iowa crash

Madison 'Addie' Hubert identified as 1 of 2 killed

SOLON, Iowa - An Evergreen, Colo. college freshman was identified Sunday as one of two people killed in a two-car crash in Iowa Saturday night.

Cornell College confirmed that Madison "Addie" Hubert, 18, a first-year student was killed in the crash, which happened about 9 p.m. Saturday on Highway 1 just north of Solon, Iowa.

Wilbur D. Bigler, 68, of West Union, Iowa also died in the crash, according to the WCFCourier newspaper.

Cornell College said another student was injured in the accident.  He was identified as Colin Bertucci. The three other injured were members of Bertucci's family.

The Iowa State Patrol said Hubert was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a car driven by Bigler after he apparently lost control on the snow-covered highway.

KCRG update:

Cornell President Jonathan Brand expressed his sympathy for the family.

"We are deeply saddened at the loss of our student," Brand said. "Cornell is a close community and everyone is affected."

Cornell College is located in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
