City says Denver's homeless work program is working

DENVER – The city’s new homeless work program is apparently proving successful.

Four people who got their start with Denver Day Works now have full-time employment, Denver7 partner The Denver Post reported.

The Denver Parks and Recreation Department hired the four individuals to work at Civic Center Park. The parks department struggles to fill many of its seasonal positions each year, the report stated.

The city launched the pilot program last November to help provide work opportunities for people experiencing homelessness. Participants are assigned to a job sight and are paid daily. Each participant can only make $600 through the program.

More seasonal hires from the Day Works program are expected, the parks department told the Denver Post.

Bayaud Enterprises operates the non-profit program for the city.
