LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. - A stabbing early Christmas morning led to the death of a man in La Plata County, about 8 miles southwest of Durango.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Dan Bender said deputies were sent to a home on County Road 125 around 1:00 a.m. after a 911 call reported the stabbing. Robby Schindeldecker, 43, was dead from an apparent stab wound when officers arrived.

Investigators spoke to people at the home and learned Schindeldecker was involved in a disturbance that led to the fatal stabbing, Bender said.

Deputies don't believe any area residents have reason to fear for their safety, according to Bender.
