COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The destructive hailstorm that swept through the Colorado Springs area Monday has taken its toll on Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and now officials are reaching out for help.

The zoo has set up a donation page to help with clean-up and relief. Those wanting to donate can select an amount between $10 - $1,000 and pay with a credit card on the zoo’s website.

The Monday afternoon storm injured 14 people and killed two zoo animals — a 13-year-old Cape vulture named Motswari and a 4-year-old Mucovy duck named Daisy.

Softball-sized hail also smashed the skylights of several buildings and damaged hundreds of vehicles in the zoo’s parking lot.

The zoo, which has been closed for the past two days as staff members work to make repairs, announced late Wednesday on Twitter they would be re-opening Saturday, Aug. 11 at 8 a.m. for members and at 9 a.m. for the general public.

From there, the zoo will resume their normal seven-day-a-week schedule from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., officials said.
