Charges considered after toddler's shooting death in Frederick

Gun found near boy's body

GREELY, Colo. - Prosecutors may soon decide whether to file charges stemming from the accidental shooting death of a toddler at a Frederick home.

Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour tells The Greeley Tribune (http://bit.ly/1aN69Hn ) the investigation into 3-year-old Sheine Steine's death is ongoing, and the department will soon send the results to the Weld County District Attorney's Office.

The boy's mother called 911 on Oct. 28 and told dispatchers her son had apparently fallen, wasn't breathing and was bleeding from the head. The coroner's office determined the toddler died from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

First responders say they found a .40-caliber handgun near the boy, but investigators have not said how he got a hold of the weapon.
