DENVER -- Some residents living near Federal Boulevard and Kentucky Avenue say they want changes to the traffic signal.
The traffic light on Federal doesn't have a green arrow for people who want to turn onto Kentucky.
"It's impossible, because there's too many cars, and they just try to go through when they can," said Kristine Kelly, who has lived in the neighborhood for 11 years.
The intersection, which is just down the street from where Kelly lives, has seen an increase in traffic over the years.
"I've seen close calls, and I've had close calls, and it scares me," said Kelly. "It's a sad situation. I know the last time there was [an accident] a lady lost her life."
Kelly said she was hit earlier this month when a car trying to turn off Federal onto Kentucky went right in front of her.
"They need to put an arrow so people can turn onto Kentucky," said Kelly
Workers at businesses near the intersection told Denver7 they've witnessed countless accidents.
Denver's Department of Public Works is aware of all the accidents.
"Over the last few years, we started noticing a crash picture emerging at Federal and Kentucky," said Heather Burke, a spokesperson for public works.
The Colorado Department of Transportation and the city’s public works department is working to finalize funding for a redesign of the intersection, which will include a new traffic signal. It's targeted to all be put in place in 2018.
"The new signal is going to include a lot of safety enhancements that's going to help enhance the visibility of that signal, and it also may include left turn arrows as well," said Kelly.
For now, the city said they'll explore ways to make some short-term improvements.
According to police records, the intersection has had 60 car accidents happen in the last two years. The main reason is from careless driving.
