NORTHGLENN, Colo.-- The Colorado Department of Transportation is rolling out pedicabs to help people get across Interstate 25 in Northglenn.
A well-used pedestrian tunnel under I-25 closed Monday while CDOT works to expand the highway for new express lanes. Hundreds of people use the underpass.
"I commute and walk through the tunnel every day," said Clayton Kauffman.
Kauffman uses the tunnel to get to work.
The Wagon Road Park-n-Ride sits on the west side of the highway. A handful of businesses are located on the east side.
"We understand the closure is an inconvenience," said CDOT spokesperson Stacia Sellers.
CDOT will have two pedicabs running at a time. They'll take people over the highway on 120th Avenue at no cost.
This is the first time CDOT has done something like this.
The pedestrian tunnel will be closed for a total of two months.
