DENVER -- You never know whose home your child visits for trick-or-treating, and as you may be thinking about areas to take your kids to for Halloween, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has a tool parents can use to see where sex offenders live.

"We go in a group with neighbors. We usually get together before trick-or-treating and have pizza and hang out and treats at someone's house," said parent Denise Whittington.

CBI updates the site every hour. You can search the database by typing in a name, address or zip code, and in seconds you can see where all sex offenders in the area live.

CBI spokesperson Susan Medina said no matter the age, parents should be with their child when they're out trick-or-treating.

"Because then your eyes, your hands on you can exactly monitor what's happening," Medina said. "Also, there's several different ways parents can have their kids experience the Halloween excitement and that's by going to community events."
