CBI investigates man's shooting by Fremont County deputy

FLORENCE, Colo. - A Fremont County Sheriff's deputy shot and wounded a man who got into a scuffle with the deputy.

According to the sheriff's office, it happened at 5:42  Tuesday afternoon at the Pathfinder Regional Park west of Florence.

The sheriff's deputy contacted a person who had been in an earlier incident in Florence. The two got into an altercation at the park and the deputy fired his service weapon, striking the man.

The man was airlifted to an area hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputy was not injured and was placed on administrative leave while the Colorado Bureau of Investigation conducts its investigation.

The sheriff's office said no further information would be released Tuesday.
