EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. – A Carbondale man was arrested on child sex assault charges for allegedly having sex several times with a 13-year-old girl he met online.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said Jose E. Argueta Romero, 19, met the girl on social media and gained her trust by complimenting her looks.

The two eventually met in person and deputies said Romero had sex with the girl in his car in front of the girl’s home on multiple occasions.

Deputies began investigating the case after hearing from Child Protective Services. School officials had contacted CPS after the girl missed several days of school because she was afraid she was pregnant.

After investigating the girl’s relationship with Romero, deputies took the man into custody on felony charges of sexual assault of a child. He’s being held on $100,000 bond.

Anyone with information on this case should contact the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office at 970-328-8500.
