WESTMINSTER, Colo. - The driver of a car was arrested Thursday after crashing into the garage of a home in Westminster.
It happened at about 2 a.m. at 5474 116th Ave., according to the Westminster Police Department.
The crash wiped out about half of the garage, police told 7NEWS.
"The garage sustained severe damage, however the home was spared of any structural damage," police said.
The gas line was also broken, but was shut off quickly, investigators said.
Two people were in the black Audi. The passenger was taken to a hospital. The driver, Jeffrey Holmes, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, reckless driving, driving vehicle while under restraint and failure to provide proof of insurance.
The homeowner was sleeping inside at the time, but was not hurt.
"I could smell gas and I thought 'Oh my god, is this house going to explode?'" Louise Gutierrez said. "I'm fine, I just became very nervous - it was just very frightening."
Investigators said they believe speed was a factor in the crash.
