THORNTON, Colo. - A tractor-trailer hauling cars caught fire overnight and closed Interstate 25 for more than four hours.

The fire happened around 10:05 p.m. on I-25 near 84th Avenue Wednesday.

Thornton Police told 7NEWS a mechanical failure caused the fire.

Several vehicles on the trailer also caught fire, according to Sgt. Dave Boal.

Northbound I-25 was closed at 84th Avenue until 2:30 a.m.

Boal said no one was hurt.
