Debris hit and injured a 70-year-old man when a car crashed into his home early Monday morning in the Pinery neighborhood. A 13-year-old also sleeping in the room wasn't hurt.
The silver hatchback took out a window and punched a hole in the brick wall of the home.
"I didn’t know what was going on," said 13-year-old Kyle Thompson, who said his bed was pushed across the room. "I couldn’t believe that a car came right through the house. It was just an unbelievable situation."
Gunner Bolstad, 20, is under arrest for the crash, said Sgt. Lori Bronner with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Bolstad is accused of drunk driving, reckless driving, careless driving resulting in injury, four counts of reckless endangerment and third-degree assault.
Cliff Turner, the 70-year-old, was taken to a hospital after being hit in the head with debris from the crash, possinly a brick. He was treated and released within a few hours.
"It's really nice to see him, that he's all good," said 10-year-old Ryan Thompson, who was also home at the time of the crash.
Both Ryan and Kyle missed school Monday, but still got an unforgettable lesson.
"Never drink and drive, it's not a good thing you want to do," Kyle said. "It's not about getting caught, but you can hurt other peoples lives doing it."
The family said Bolstad is their neighbor and that they heard at least one car racing up and down the street before the accident.
Bolstad had three passengers in the car at the time. No one was seriously hurt.
"It’s a miracle no one got hurt, I mean, you can fix a house but you can't fix a life," Kyle said.
Investigators said the family will be able to stay in the house while it's being fixed as long as they stay out of the impacted bedroom.
