Calling all teens: thousands of summer jobs waiting to be filled

DENVER – Colorado teens looking to make some extra spending cash this summer should start looking for opportunities now.

Cher Haavind with the Colorado Department of Labor says there are thousands of positions available to teens looking for a summer jobs but most get filled by May or June.

To help teens find the perfect job, The Governor’s Summer Job Huntwill kick off later this month.

The program is in its 30th year and helps young adults between the ages of 16 and 21 build soft skills that they can use to land a summer job.

The Governor’s Summer Job Hunt helped more than 19,000 teens find jobs last year and they hope to help even more this year.

To meet that goal, there are several jobs fairs planned including a virtual job fair for youth that begins Monday. Teens can log on to Pikes Peak Workforce Center to participate. The virtual job fair runs until May 1.

Here are some other upcoming events. 

• Kicking off the Young Enterpreneur's Tournament (April 5). 
• Employment night at the Loveland Public Library (March 22)
• Denver job fair at McNichols Event Center. (April 6) 
• Adams County job fair at several locations beginning March 29.
