California family of 5 killed in Nevada crash were returning from Denver

Teen in crash was a fugitive

LOS ANGELES - An Orange County, Calif., supervisor says it's unclear if anyone ever went looking for a teen who escaped from a juvenile facility nearly a month before a crash in Nevada that killed five members of a California family.

Eighteen-year-old Jean Soriano faces drunken driving charges in the Saturday crash. He fled the Youth Guidance Center in Santa Ana, Calif., on March 1.

Orange County Board of Supervisors member Todd Spitzer says his panel only learned of Soriano's fugitive status from county officials via email earlier this week. The county Sheriff's Department says it has no record of being asked to help look for Soriano. A spokesman for the county probation department declined to comment.

The crash killed a trio of brothers and other members of their family heading home to Southern California after visiting their sick father in Denver.
