AURORA, Colo. - Aurora police chased and arrested a suspect in a crime spree Tuesday that included an officer being bitten.
At about 4:55 a.m., officers were called to the Walmart at 14000 E. Expostion Ave., on a report of a robbery. The robbery victim told police he was sleeping in his car when the suspect assaulted him and stole his car keys.
At about 6:35 a.m., officers were called to the 14300 block of E. Kentucky Place on a report of a burglary. The homeowner told officers he woke up and discovered several items were missing from inside his residence, including his car keys. He also told officers his minivan was gone.
At about 8:15 a.m., officers located the stolen minivan and the suspect parked in the area of 20400 E. Saratoga Place in unincorporated Arapahoe County. Officers attempted to arrest the suspect but he tried to flee on foot and started to fight with the officers. During the struggle, the suspect bit one officer and a Taser was used. The Taser was ineffective and the suspect ran away, according to police. Officers set up a perimeter and the suspect was spotted and chased several more times.
The suspect was finally caught and taken into custody at about 8:55 a.m.
The officer the suspect bit was treated at a medical facility for his injury. The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries he received.
The crime spree occurred in two police districts in Aurora and ended in another jurisdiction. Investigators believe the suspect may have committed other burglaries between 6:35 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. as well. It will take some time for investigators to sort out all the events and determine the appropriate charges. The suspect's name is not being released at this time.
