CAÑON CITY, Colo. - A 50-acre fire was burning north of Highway 50 on BLM-managed lands in Fremont County on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bull Gulch Fire, approximately one mile east of Table Mountain and about nine miles northwest of the intersection of Road Gulch and Copper Gulch Road, was burning in brush, pinyon pine and juniper trees.
It started about 1 p.m.
Eight smokejumpers and two 20-person hand crews will remain on scene throughout the night, working to contain the fire. Two Single Engine Airtankers dropped retardant on the fire throughout Wednesday afternoon.
No structures have been lost.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but the area received a lot of lightning on Tuesday night, BLM public relations officer Denise Adamic said.
