DENVER - Two brothers arrested in the shooting death of a popular local bartender are being held without bond.
Friends of Chris Haney, 36, said he was trying to break-up a fight when he was shot and killed outside a Denny's restaurant on April 27.
Police arrested Robert Bernal, 25, and his brother, Paul Bernal, a juvenile. The brothers were in court Tuesday. The judge scheduled a status hearing for June 21 and ordered the men held without bond.
Haney worked as a bartender at the Gothic Theater. Friends said Haney was “a big hearted, warm, very funny and generous individual.”
Haney had been at a concert at Hi-Dive before the shooting, his friends said. He was walking home when he saw the fight happening.
Haney's wife and 5-year-old daughter were on a vacation to Disney World when the shooting happened.
