GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A jury is now deciding if Heather Jensen understood the risk when she left her toddlers in an overheated car in the winter of 2012 or if she had no perception that they could die of hyperthermia locked in that car.
The jury of eight women and four men is beginning deliberations Thursday following closing arguments.
Jensen is charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide, two counts of child abuse resulting in death and false reporting to authorities. If the jury finds Jensen guilty, she could face 24 years in prison.
Investigators say Heather Jensen's 2- and 4-year-old sons died when she left them in her SUV with the motor running and the heater on while she had sex and smoked marijuana in another vehicle nearby.
