BOULDER, Colo. – There is a saying about people being up a certain type of creek without a paddle, and Boulder officials are hoping Boulder Creek doesn’t turn into the proverbial one by the time people get back to paddling and swimming there this summer.

Officials and residents are concerned about the growing problem of human waste and trash being left along the creek and in other less-populated areas of the city.

Officials have blamed the human waste on the city’s homeless population, who after dark have fewer places to use the bathroom.

The city’s parks and recreation department has hired outside contractors to help clean up the waste, but there is concern that the ongoing problem could cause further issues when people start using the creek for recreation again once the weather warms back up.
