BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- The Colorado Department of Corrections is paying a Boulder homeless shelter $280 a week to house a convicted rapist after failed attempts to move him to two other cities following his release from prison.

The Daily Camera reports police are conducting extra patrols after 42-year-old Christopher Lawyer moved into the shelter, and his travel within the city will be restricted and monitored.

He will be allowed to stay at the shelter for 60 days, a rule that applies to all of the people it serves.

Lawyer initially petitioned to live in Jamestown upon his release from prison last month, but corrections officials rejected the move amid strong opposition from residents. He then moved to Longmont, but police announced with no explanation he wouldn't be living in the city anymore
