Boulder County Sheriff asks residents not to burn flood debris

LONGMONT, Colo. - The Boulder County Sheriff's Office is asking residents affected by last month's floods to consider refraining from burning debris because firefighters and deputies might not be able to readily respond if the blazes get out of control.

Sheriff Joe Pelle says he understands that residents want to burn debris, but in some cases damaged roads will significantly delay an emergency response.

The Longmont Times-Call reports the sheriff's office is asking residents -- even if they have the required county permits -- to refrain from open burning until windy fall weather subsides and more roads and communications systems are repaired.
