For those planning to get high or even light up a cigarette on a Boulder County trail, you might want to think again.

This week – Boulder County commissioners are poised to ban smoking on Boulder County’s vast network of trails and in parks and open space.

“I don’t really like hiking and having smoke in your face,” said hiker Sabina Muslimovic. “You're kind of trying to get out and be in the fresh air."

"Every bit of fire hazard that we can reduce is good," said cyclist Stele Ely.

Fines would start at $75 and increase to $300 on second and third offenses.

The issue goes before commissioners this Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the morning at the Boulder County courthouse.
