Boulder closes numerous trailheads, trails due to muddy conditions

BOULDER, Colo. - The City of Boulder closed numerous trails and multiple trailheads Tuesday morning due to mud.

"Recent rain and melting snow have caused area trails to become extremely muddy," officials said in a news release. "Often when trails become muddy, visitors hike parallel to existing paths. That can cause widening and braiding of trails and future erosion problems."

Open Space & Mountain Parks said it is closing the trails and trailheads to prevent long-term damage to trails and nearby plant life.

The following trailheads have closed:

  • Marshall Mesa
  • Greenbelt Plateau
  • Flatirons Vista
  • Doudy Draw

The following trails are closed:

  • Community Ditch
  • Doudy Draw
  • Springbrook Loop North and South
  • Goshawk Ridge
  • Flatirons Vista North and South
  • Prairie Vista
  • High Plans
  • Greenbelt Plateau
  • Coalton (the portion maintained by the City of Boulder)
  • Coal Seam
  • Marshall Valley
  • Marshall Mesa
  • Cowdry Draw
  • Lefthand Trail from Boulder Valley Ranch to Neva Road
