BOULDER, Colo. -- Sometimes, happily ever after begins in the most unusual places.
Such is the case for Lockett and Tisha Wood.
“It is very special,” said Tisha Wood.
It was 25 years ago this week the two tied the knot.
“My husband put together this running wedding in 1992,” Tisha said.
“We got married in the BolderBOULDER,” said Lockett Wood.
They were the first couple ever to marry during the race.
“And it ended in the stadium in front of thousands of spectators,” Lockett said. “It was special.”
Because of that special anniversary and the fact that Tisha is a world-renowned artist, BolderBOULDERorganizers selected her as the designer for the official 2017 Bolder Boulder poster.
“This is an acrylic painting,” said Tisha as she described the piece.
“I’m a neo-impressionist,” Tisha said. “This was done with a pallet knife.”
Her painting features runners in both the foreground and background running into Folsom Field while a para-trooper waving an American flag parachutes into the stadium. It also features the landscape that is famously Boulder, the picturesque flatirons of the Rocky Mountains. The painting also includes a runner carrying a larger version of an American flag.
Tisha says the piece embodies community and diversity.
“It involves families and makes us all feel good,” she said.
And it honors the courage and sacrifice that makes Memorial Day what it is.
“Obviously, our service people are wonderful,” Tisha said. “They give so much so that we can have what we have.”
