GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A 37-year-old Grand Junction man was critically injured when he crashed his bicycle and was run over by an SUV while descending a hill at Colorado National Monument.
Ranger Joel Barnett told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (http://bit.ly/12g8Ds9 ) the man, whose name has not been released, had cleared a long straightaway in the east end of the park but lost control while trying to negotiate a switchback Saturday morning.
The man slid about 20 feet along the road before he was run over by an oncoming Jeep. He suffered multiple rib fractures and a ruptured spleen, among other injuries that Barnett described as life-threatening.
Barnett says the woman driving the Jeep did not have any time to stop before hitting the man, and criminal charges are not expected.
