COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs police killed a bear that broke into a house Saturday morning.
Residents at 4355 Kincaid Court called police to report a bear in their kitchen at about 9:30 a.m. That's off Star Ranch Road, northwest of South Academy Boulevard and Highway 115.
Police said the people living in the home hid in a different part of the house while they waited for officers to arrive.
Officer B. Eberhart said he found the bear in the back yard when he got to the home. Officer Eberhart said the bear was about 10 yards away and made an aggressive move toward him. That's when he fired two rounds from his shotgun at the bear.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials found the dead bear a short distance away and removed it.
The bear damaged a window and screen and caused some minor damage inside the kitchen, police said.
The people who live in the home were not hurt.
