Baby born near bus stop at Colfax and York in Denver early Wednesday morning

DENVER - A mother gave birth in a van near a bus stop at East Colfax Avenue and York Street just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

"A man pulled up here in a little white minivan and he came running out," RTD supervisor Fran Metz said. She said the man said "'Help me, help me, my wife's having a baby.'"

"[I] thought I was going to have to deliver a baby," Metz said. "Fortunately for me the baby had already been born."

"The baby appeared to be okay, had good color and she was breathing," said Metz.

"I was a little worried about the mom, there was a lot of blood in the car," Metz said.

Metz said she called her dispatcher and paramedics were there in minutes.

"They were transported to St. Joseph and it looks like it's going to end well," said Metz.

"I've been a street supervisor for three years and this is the first time anybody's has come up to me and said my wife's having a baby," Metz said.
