EVERGREEN, Colo. - The 8-month-old baby attacked by the family's dog in Evergreen earlier this month is improving but is still battling traumatic injuries.
The family wrote on Facebook on Monday that mom and dad got to hold their child for the first time.
"Today was a big day ... Mommy and daddy finally got to hold their baby for the first time in three weeks," the Facebook page said. 7NEWS has removed the baby's name because the family has asked for privacy.
The 8-month-old boy was attacked March 4 by the family's American Bulldog. The baby was bit in the head, causing traumatic injury. The boy was airlifted to Children’s Hospital.
According to a Facebook page following the baby's progress, the boy had several puncture wounds in his skull and he lost his ear, but his internal organs are functioning at 100 percent and his left eye, which was not functioning, is functioning now.
"(The baby) has a long way to go still but we remain hopeful," the Facebook page said.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the dog was euthanized at the request of the owner.
