BOULDER, Colo. - If you are traveling to the mountains for the President's Day weekend, be careful.
The Colorado Avalanche Informational Center has issued a special avalanche advisory for several areas in the mountains. The advisory ends on Monday at 5 p.m.
The areas within the special advisory include: Northern San Juan, Front Range, Steamboat and Flat Tops, Sawatch Range, Vail and Summit County and Aspen.
Colorado is in the midst of an historic avalanche cycle. Two people were killed in separate avalanche incidents on Feb 10 and two more were killed Saturday.
Destructive natural avalanches are possible on isolated slopes and human-triggered avalanches are likely on all steep slopes. The Avalanche Informational Center tells travelers not to rely on standard safe routes and travel practices to keep you out of trouble. Travel in avalanche terrain, including backcountry terrain accessed from ski areas, is not recommended.
