WELD COUNTY, Colo. - The tow truck operator killed in Saturday's crash on Highway 85 near Weld County Road 6 has been identified as 47-year-old Martin Braden of Aurora.
Braden was clearing debris from the roadway after an earlier crash when he was hit by a truck.
“The southbound F-250 collided with the rear of the trooper’s vehicle, knocked it off the side of the road and collided with the tow operator,” said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Mike Baker.
“[Braden] died a short time later,” a passerby told 7NEWS.
Trooper Scott Rendfrey had moderate injuries and was released from the hospital late Saturday, Sgt. Baker said in a statement Sunday.
Investigators say the driver of the pickup, Dana Beales, 61, of Ft. Lupton suffered minor injuries.
Excessive speed and distracted driving are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash and charges against Beales are pending, Baker reported.
Beales’ family declined to talk about the accident, but did say they are praying for the family of the tow truck operator.
The families of all three men have requested privacy while the investigation continues, Baker said.
