Aurora police shoot suspect in armed robbery after foot chase through several yards

Suspect expected to recover, no officers were hurt

AURORA, Colo. - Aurora police are investigating robbery and chase that ended with an officer shooting the suspect.

Officers were called to an armed robbery at the Bradley gas station at Havana Street and Del Mar Parkway at about 12:30 a.m.

The man ran off before police got there, but witnesses gave officers a description of the man.

Just minutes later, police said an officer spotted a man about a half-miile away at East 7th Avenue and Ironton Street who matched the description.

Police tried to contact the man but he ran, and the officer chased him through several yards.

"Witnesses heard officer giving commands show your hands," said Cassidee Carlson with the Aurora Police Department. "Shots were fired by the officer striking the suspect."

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

The officer wasn't hurt.

He'll be placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
