AURORA, Colo. – Police say three vehicles that were “puffing” Friday morning were stolen in Aurora a day after at least two other vehicles were stolen in the Denver area while warming up.

Police continue to warn that “puffing” is illegal unless a vehicle has a remote start system and the key fob needed to move the vehicle is far enough away from the vehicle.

However, vehicles are not allowed to warm up while idling for longer than five minutes.

Anyone who idles for longer than that or leaves their car unattended with the keys inside is subject to citation.

A man in Castle Pines had his car stolen Tuesday night from a 7-Eleven, and an Arvada man saw his truck stolen Wednesday morning.

Authorities say at least 50 tickets are issued to “puffers” each year.
