AURORA, Colo. - Aurora Police said they have made an arrest in connection with the killing of a local woman in 2002 whose body was found in a Rubbermaid container.
Jon Harrington, 50, was arrested Monday at his home in Denver, according to a police report.
He was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder and is currently being held on $250,000 bond in the Arapahoe County Jail.
The victim in this case was identified as Carolyn Jansen. Jansen was 43-years old when she first went missing. Investigators believe she may have been killed in early 2002. At the time of her disappearance, Jansen and Harrington were roommates.
On June 28, 2005, police were called to a house in Aurora when another former roommate of Harrington's had opened a container that he was storing for Harrington.
The caller reported that he had made the gruesome discovery of human remains inside the container that were later identified as Jansen's.
Authorities said Harrington was a suspect in the homicide once Jansen's remains were found, but investigators still had to build a case against him.
In 2008, the case was assigned to the Aurora Police Department's Cold Case Detectives.
