Aurora pedestrian critically injured after minivan runs red light

AURORA - A pedestrian received life-threatening injuries after being hit by a minivan involved in a broadside crash Friday night.

It happened at about 10:10 p.m. at the intersection of East Quincy Avenue and South Buckley Road.

According to police, a Toyota SUV driven by an adult male was traveling west on Quincy as he went through the intersection.  A Mazda minivan driven by an adult female was traveling north on Buckley and ran the red light, driving into the path of the SUV, police said.

The impact caused the minivan to go through the crosswalk on the north side of Buckley, striking a male pedestrian who was in the crosswalk.

The drivers were both uninjured but the pedestrian received serious life threatening injuries, police said.  He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  It was not known if he will survive his injuries.

The Aurora Police Traffic Section is investigating the crash.  Neither excessive speed nor intoxication is suspected, police said.  Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
