AURORA, Colo. -- The city of Aurora a has a deficit of about 12,000 affordable units, and residents at the Denver Meadows Mobile Home Park are doing what they can to keep their affordable homes.
On Thursday, residents marched in protest of the owner’s wishes to close the park next year.
Andrea Chiriboga-Flor with 9 to 5 Colorado, an organization advocating for mobile home rights, says if the land sold, 400 people will be displaced with no help to relocate.
“There are 15 states that have a funding source for relocation costs; we are not one of them,” said Chiriboga-Flor.
Chiriboga-Flor says her group reached out to Resident Owned Communities, another nonprofit that helps buy and reserve affordable housing. ROC told Chiriboga-Flor the owner has no intentions of selling.
But when Denver7 reached out to the owner’s representative, we were told the lawyers never received a letter of intent to buy or proof of funds from those wanting to buy the land.
Residents say they will continue to fight against being uprooted from the comforts of their homes.
“They just don't care! They really don't. It's all about the mighty dollar,” said Denver Meadows Resident, Ann Adams.
