AURORA, Colo. - The City of Aurora says it is working to help return clothes locked inside a dry cleaning business that closed suddenly.
Village Dry Cleaners at South Peoria Street and East Dartmouth Avenue has been closed since mid-July. A sign posted inside the front door says, "Closed due to emergency. Will be back soon. Sorry."
A note posted on the exterior of the front door states that the landlord is taking Village Dry Cleaners to court for failing to pay his August rent.
Loyal patrons told 7NEWS they used the cleaners for years, but had no warning about the closure.
Now, Aurora spokeswoman Lori MacKenzie said the city is taking an unusually step and calling customers who left their name on a sheet posted outside the business. They are inviting the customers to pick up their items on Thursday and Friday.
"That is not our normal procedure but it is what we are going to try to do," MacKenzie said.
A customer told 7NEWS that they were asked to pick up their items between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday or 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday.
